About Impulse
Impulse provides performance opportunities and career building assistance to emerging concert artists who have come to the end of their academic endeavors and are in the midst of embarking on their professional careers. Impulse presents the freshest talent on the scene to eager audiences thankful for exciting, intimate and unforgettable concert experiences.
Fusing music and the visual arts, all main event concerts are held at Wade Wilson Art. In addition to the solo recitals, Impulse Artists perform in a chamber concert, a special concert for Houston arts presenters, outreach in Houston schools and preview concerts in Houston suburbs in addition to live performances on KUHF radio, Houston’s NPR affiliate. In an effort to pick up where music schools leave off, Impulse offers its artists the Impulse Artist Series Career Seminar customized to meet their individual needs as emerging concert artists. Impulse Artists receive generous honorariums, professional promotional materials including professional audio/video recordings from their concerts, professional photography, extensive media coverage in print, radio and television as well as all-expense paid travel and luxurious accommodations in outstanding Houston homes.
The Impulse Artist Series Festival fills a unique gap in classical music performance. Conservatory music students exude incredibly high energy and are at the height of their creative and artistic development. The electric vibrancy is enhanced by the safety of the academic environment, as they are free to experiment with different genres, styles, media and format.
Impulse acts like an emerging artist incubator, finding artists at their peak and who have been making a valiant attempts at sustaining a performance career. Impulse Artist Series presents, nurtures, celebrates, and ensures this unique genre of artist has the ability to thrive and be introduced to modern audiences.
Concerts are progressive and the repertoire is a mixture of periods, genres, including multi-genre and experimental styles. The venue is such that it allows for intimate engagement and interaction. Artists are expected to address the audience not in lecture style, but rather in active dialogue that erases the boundaries between performer and audience.
