About Education and Family Programming
Family Concerts
All Impulse concerts are all-inclusive and welcoming of children ages 5 and up.
Impulse also presents special Family Concerts featuring student performers (grades 1-12) from Houston and surrounding areas and makes for the perfect occasion for full families to participate in the festival. Impulse student concert performers, like their Impulse Artist counterparts, also treat the audience to pre-performance commentary. The atmosphere is an even more relaxed setting, allowing parents to bring in their families and introduce them to the arts, to engage in artistic processes, and to serve as a forum for arts advocacy.
Student performers are selected by audition process. For the 2010 Festival, auditions will be held on Saturday, October 23, from 9 am to 5 pm. The free Young Artist Showcase and Family Concert will be presented on Sunday, November 14, at 3 pm. The application deadline is October 16. Click here for the audition form. Impulse Artist Series Career Planning Seminar
Impulse Artists attend the Career Seminar, a series of professional development workshops led by experts in various fields of classical music. Impulse Festival Planning Committee and the Education Committee chooses topics and presenters based on the specific professional profiles of the artist selected. Content ranges from branding, traditional marketing, social media marketing channels, self-promotion, fundraising, artist management, educational outreach, interview skills, and financial development.
Educational Outreach
Impulse Artist Series supports local music education by presenting educational concerts at area schools. Impulse Artists will receive additional support to become a well versed ambassador of the arts as well as learn the important of supporting their respective educational institutions.
Impulse Artist Series facilitate the presentation by introducing the artists’ instrument, and guide listeners through the various emotions present in classical music. The students engage actively with the artists learning how music can portray emotions. The program makes a big impact because of the wide spectrum of music presented.
